The urgent and the best.

There is a war going on in each of our lives everyday. It's the war of the urgent and the best. I remember years ago, being told to schedule my priorities. This went to the practical details of sitting down with my calendar and putting the things that were my priorities in FIRST... then I was free to make room for the urgent demands of my day-to-day fit around those. Although that is simply an easy way to get your life to reflect what you value it remains one of the hardest things for me to do. I don't even know why. Lack of time? Lack of reflection? Lack of stated priorities? Too many priorities? So, what to do?

I have a feeling that I'm not alone on this one. I remember loads of my friends I've journeyed with who go to recovery centres to treat their addiction and thrive. Then they get out of this "pretend" world and face the real one again - the frenetic, non-stop, needs world and they are stuck in the face of the reality of how hard it is to live a good life in a crazy world like ours. How to do it?

I just preached on Sunday about something God spoke to a bunch of salvation army officers on their annual retreat in Alberta. It was pretty simple word - 'remember me' and it just so happened that I was also reading about memory. Two books on the same subject actually, Walking With Einstien and The Sabbath as Resistance by Bruggeman. It's all connected. And by all of it - I mean all of it, is connected.

Remembering God changes everything about us. It reminds us that we are not the centre of the universe. It re-awakens us to the way out that is provided for us. It re-aligns us to God's purposes for our lives... we are not slaves. This is the key to living - to living free - to recovery - to freedom - to 'remember' is to choose not to forget... don't forget who you really are. Your values, your priorities... be your best self.
